Hatsan Air Rifles: Turkish value meets serious airgunning

Hatsan Arms Company, based in Izmir, Turkey, has grown from a relatively obscure manufacturer into one of the most significant airgun producers in the world, and arguably the most ambitious. Where many budget manufacturers are content to produce simple, functional spring-piston rifles, Hatsan has driven hard into every segment of the airgun market: break-barrel spring and gas-ram guns, CO2 pistols and rifles, and a comprehensive range of PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) airguns that challenge established premium brands on performance while undercutting them sharply on price.

The result is a brand that serious airgunners are increasingly finding impossible to ignore.

Break-barrel spring and gas-ram rifles

Hatsan's break-barrel spring-piston range covers an extensive spectrum from youth-friendly low-power models to full-power adult hunting rifles. The Hatsan 95, 85, and 125 series are among the brand's most popular offerings in this category, robust, powerfully sprung rifles available in .177, .22, and in some markets .25 calibre.

The Quattro trigger system that Hatsan fits across much of its range is a genuine standout feature. User-adjustable in two stages, it delivers a quality of release that significantly exceeds competitors in the same price bracket. Paired with the anti-vibration system and reasonably consistent power output, Hatsan's spring guns offer a genuine step up from basic entry-level competitors.

Gas-ram variants replace the traditional coiled steel mainspring with a gas-filled cylinder, delivering several practical advantages: no spring fatigue, smoother cocking, and a more consistent firing cycle across varying temperatures. The gas-ram Hatsan rifles are popular with pest controllers and hunters who want improved durability and consistency.

Hatsan PCP rifles: The ambitious leap

Hatsan's PCP range is where the brand has made its most dramatic impact. Pre-charged pneumatic air rifles, which are filled from a high-pressure air source and deliver consistent, rifle-accurate shots without the recoil and technique requirements of spring-piston guns, have traditionally been a premium market. Brands like Air ArmsDaystate, and FX have dominated with products priced from several hundred to several thousand pounds.

Hatsan entered this market aggressively, offering PCP rifles like the BT65, Carnivore, and Flash series at prices that made PCP shooting accessible to a much wider audience. The accuracy and build quality of Hatsan PCPs, while not at the level of premium British and Swedish competitors, is entirely credible for hunting and pest control work. For shooters wanting to explore PCP shooting without committing to premium pricing, Hatsan has opened a door that previously required much greater investment.

Realistic assessment

Hatsan rifles require honest assessment. Build consistency can vary more than with premium European manufacturers, and fit and finish on some models reflects the value pricing.

Shooters who buy Hatsan expecting a direct substitute for an Air Arms or Daystate will be disappointed. But shooters who approach them as excellent value-for-money tools capable, functional, and well-designed within their budget constraints, will find much to appreciate.

Final verdict

Hatsan has earned a legitimate place in the serious airgunning world. Their spring and gas-ram break-barrel guns offer genuine performance at budget prices, their Quattro trigger is a standout feature, and their PCP range has democratised a sector of the market that was previously the preserve of well-funded enthusiasts.

For shooters seeking maximum capability per pound spent, Hatsan is a brand worth serious consideration.
